If you don’t already know about The Kiltwalk, it is an amazing set of sponsored walks that raise money for Scottish children’s charities such as CHAS, Yorkhill and Children First. They have walks in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Speyside and even walks and treks in Brazil, Kilimanjaro, and The Great Wall of China.
This time we helped out Capability Scotland at their 8.4 mile pitstop in Victoria Park, Edinburgh. We arrived ready and rearing at 10am to help set up the stall for the first walkers arriving about 11am. This stop was on the route for the walkers only doing the full 26 mile walk so these amazing walkers deserved extra cheering on and supplies.
Our eight members were helping out by distributing water and sports drinks, apples and chocolate snacks to the walkers as well as encouragement, by cheering and dancing along to the big band in the Capability Scotland tent. Walkers could also take respite from the terrible rain and take photos with funny hats and costumes for the Photo Booth in the Capability Scotland tent.
All the walkers on the 26 mile walk must have been really speedy as the last of the walkers came through about 12:30. Despite the rain, we had a really great time and hopefully the walkers made it to their goal without being too drenched.
